Hmmm, a $2,500 mark up across three brand new 2018 Genesis G80 3.8s. What market do they think they are in? Well I bet that 2017 G80 is discounted...
Weird for an end of model year Hyundai. Hey, that’s a facelifted 2018 Sonata over there!
No way...that same $2,500 market adjustment is on a $25,000 car? You’re not even going to re-adjust your market adjustment so that it isn’t 10% of the vehicle’s MSRP? There’s no way it’s on every car on the lot, I mean this Elantra on steelies over here can’t possibly...
Brands may try to change but the dealerships are the face of these brands, whether they do something about it or not.
Just for fun, I went across the street to see the market adjustment on Hellcats and Jeeps.
There’s your $1,900 market adjustment on a brand new Challenger Hellcat. A $600 savings rip off over a $19,000 Elantra. Let’s have a look at the Jeep-Chrysler portion of the next dealership (which had probably 300 Jeep vehicles on the lot and 30 Chryslers which was an even split of Pacifica and 300s).
All the Jeeps-Chrysler-Mitsubishi vehicles at this dealer had a $900 market adjustment. Well all except for...
That’s how you know you are getting a real Jeep!
Even dropped by the Chevy, Nissan, and Kia dealers simply out of curiosity. Nothing outside the usual $200 dealer tints, $700 life time washes, and $700 exterior coatings or whatever.
No wonder automakers are needing to throw $4,000, $6000, or $8,000-plus in incentives on all these cars.

I think it says more about the dealer than the brand.

Jesus fuck is dealership a front for a money laundering scheme? I can get marking up a Wrangler or Hellcat (even if it’s wrong) but never a Sonata.

Yeah, but those are probably from when it first rolled onto the lot, and they thought they could possibly get a fresh car bump.
It looks like they’re actually going for far less, like $2,500 off MSRP. At least for that pedestrian Elantra.

Gee, I wonder why I keep hearing that sales of new cars are slowing...

At least they are calling it what it is. The Dodge-Chrysler-Jeep dealer here adds an around $2000 “Deluxe Package” to every car on the lot that is basically nitrogen filled tires some questionable paint protectant. Then they act like that is the real price and try to tell you you’re getting a $1000 discount when you’re still at $1000 over MSRP. I spent half an hour trying to get them just to start negotiating at MSRP on a Renegade a few years ago, because there was maybe $100 in their markup package, but got nowhere. I’d rather them just call it “Dealer Markup” and be done with it.

Market Value Adjustment/Adjusted Market Value.
Outside the U.S., we call that, ‘a crock of shit’.

*Vehicle Theft Recovery
What the hell. Does your car insurance and/or breakdown cover not cover this?
